Here at DRL we are always looking for ways to give something back to those in need and 2011 has been no different. Not only did twelve of our employees climb Mount Kilimanjaro in March for Bolton Lads and Girls Club, but we have now donated some old company mobile phones to the charity WaterAid which works to improve access to safe water for some of the World’s poorest people.

Our donation of 47 mobile phones will change lives when you consider that just £15 can provide safe water, improved hygiene and sanitation for one person living in a developing country. This small gesture and others like it continue to ensure more of the World’s population has access to safe drinking water which is something we so often take for granted.

This latest donation will certainly not be the end of DRL’s charitable giving in 2011. Next month our charity sports day will raise even more money for those who really need it.

History repeats itself for DRL

Posted on 17, Jun

Last night DRL had the best possible start to the summer and were the proud recipients of a Bolton and Bury Business award…. for the second year in a row. We took home the “We’re Backing Bolton Award,” fending off tough competition from Credit Claims and The Best of Bolton.

We are very honoured to receive this award because it recognises our extensive work for the Bolton Lads and Girls club and our commitment to promoting the Bolton and Bury region as an attractive place to do business.

The awards ceremony took place at the De Vere Whites Hotel in Middlebrook where guests were entertained by former snooker champion Steve Davies who had the audience in stitches with tales from the world of snooker.

Everyone at DRL would like to say a big thank you to The Bolton News and The Bury Times for recognising our achievements and let’s hope history repeats itself for a third time at next year’s awards.

DRL’s behind Bolton and Bury

Posted on 10, Jun

The summer is nearly upon us and everyone is full of cheer at DRL because we have been nominated for another award and this time it’s the Bolton and Bury Business Awards. Now last year you may recall that we were at the same award ceremony picking up the ‘Business of the Year award’, this year we have been nominated for the ‘We’re Backing Bolton and Bury award’ which recognises businesses in the region who have given back to the local community through one of Britain’s hardest economic climates. We are delighted to be nominated for this award which recognises our commitment to Bolton Lads and Girls Club.

In March twelve brave DRL employees climbed Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for the club’s mentoring programme and together DRL has raised £70,000 which has secured 70 places for young vulnerable individuals at the club to have one-to-one mentoring.  DRL will be continuing to raise money for the club and have underwritten an additional £30,000 by the end of the year bringing the total to a mighty £100,000.

This award nomination also represents the continued growth of the business which has seen us recruit more people from the local area and continue to train our current employees ensuring the best skills are retained in the region. This commitment to our employees resulted in the business receiving a National Training Award last September and named ‘63rd Best Company to Work For’ in a recent Sunday Times list.

The Bolton and Bury Business awards ceremony will take place on June 16th at the De Vere Whites Hotel in Middlebrook and will be hosted by BBC North West Tonight Weathergirl Dianne Oxberry. There will also be a genuine legend speaking at the awards, five time snooker world champion Steve Davies. We are all looking forward to the award ceremony where we hope to gain the “backing” of the judges and take home the prestigious accolade.
