Appliances Online have started to look a little different lately. We’re still the same, dedicated to great customer service that puts people at the heart of everything we do, but a big smile has crept into our lives. We’ve always been about the customer and this is still our main focus. We want every customer to have a simple, straightforward and fun experience when buying an appliance, giving them something to smile about.
At AO Appliances customers can always be assured that they’ll be greeted by friendly, enthusiastic and genuine staff who are there to help at any point in their purchase. We’re committed to being up-front and honest. Customers will see all prices displayed clearly, with no hidden costs. Known for our flexibility, we always work around the customer, not the other way round!
We’ve partnered with Yorkshire based communications agency, 10 Associates, for our rebrand; with the view to developing a leading recognisable brand that people associate with happiness through excellent customer service. David Worthington, managing director of 10 Associates, highlighted the importance of creating a brand which reflects the AO culture. “The 10 Associates team spent two months getting under the skin of Appliances Online, and the overwhelming conclusion was that it is the retailer’s people that have made it a success, with their unwavering commitment to delivering great customer service. We created a brand that visually demonstrates this commitment to the customer and emulates the business and all that is good about it. The new brand marque is confident, charismatic, iconic and fun.”
At the end of the day AO is all about the customer and the new re-brand strengthens those values. It’s all part of being brilliant, every click of the way!

Last night a lucky few at DRL attended yet another award ceremony, this time it was the MEN Business Awards. We were up for the Business of the Year turnover over £50 million award, unfortunately we didn’t win but… we did take home one of only two special accolades on the night. The judges were so impressed with our relentless commitment to great customer service they awarded DRL with the Excellence in Customer Service Award.
The ceremony was held at The Point venue which overlooks Lancashire County Cricket Ground and was hosted by the King of Spin Alistair Campbell who answered questions from the audience about his time working with Tony Blair, his thoughts on current Prime Minister David Cameron, and his football team Burnley FC.
The Excellence in Customer Service Award caps off a fantastic year for the business which has been packed with awards cheer. We have won seven awards which is a brilliant achievement and let’s hope 2012 will be even better!
After a summer full of awards cheer we have received EVEN more good news… DRL has been announced as a finalist for another award and this time it’s the Manchester Evening News Business Awards! We are up for the Turnover Over 50m category which is one of the most prestigious awards of the night.
Two years ago we were nominated for the same award and unfortunately we didn’t win, however that was two years ago and knowing how much DRL has grown since then we are confident we can go one better in 2011 and take home the coveted prize.
The award ceremony will take place at the Lancashire County Cricket Club on the 17th November with Alistair Campbell acting as the Master of Proceedings for the prestigious ceremony; let’s hope the night will be the best possible end to what has been a very successful 2011.
Another year, another adventure for the lucky few at DRL. After the Kilimanjaro dozen, we now have the Atlas Six, who will be braving the sub zero temperatures to climb to the summit of North Africa’s highest peak, Mount Toubkal. The Atlas Six are looking to raise a minimum of £15,000 for Bolton Lads and Girls Club and there ways for everyone to get involved to help them reach their ambitious target, including…
Dress Down Weeks – Last week was the first of three dress down weeks in the run up to the climb. For just £5 you can forget about ironing your shirt before work and wear your own clothes to the office every day for a whole week. It’s an easy way to participate in the fundraising, and comfortable too!
Comedy Night – On November 26th DRL will host its first comedy night at the Over Hulton Conservative Club. Showcasing some great local talent this night is not to be missed. We’re expecting a great turnout, so get your tickets as soon as you can.
Tuck Shop – With Trick or Treat nearly upon us, you’ll find an abundance of Krispy Kreme doughnuts and cans of soft drinks in the office at the end of October. It’ll be £1 per Krispy Kreme and 50p per can, so if the folk in the Appliances Online office fancy a mid morning snack (or two) they know where to go!
BBC Radio – The Atlas Six and representatives from BLGC will be appearing on BBC Lancs & BBC Manchester next month to promote the great work the club do, as well as all the fund raising efforts. It’s a great opportunity to reach a lot of people with the message, so we’re looking forward to it a lot. We’re expecting them to be gracing the airwaves on the 15th November, but keep your eyes peeled for more details on when you can tune in.
Gift Wrapping Service – If you are stretched for time this Christmas why not take advantage of the Atlas six gift wrapping service. For a small donation the Atlas team will wrap any present, giving their lucky customers some time to put their feet up and avoid that obligatory Christmas Eve wrapping frenzy.
It’s official… DRL has the best customer service in the whole of the UK after beating off competition from Lebara, LV Insurance and DPD to take home the award at the European Call Centre and Customer Service Awards.
This is fantastic news for the business as the European Call Centre and Customer Service Awards are recognised as the most prestigious within the industry and it further enhances DRL’s reputation for providing its customers with the best service.
The judges were particularly impressed with the willingness of employees who go the extra mile for customers commenting; “DRL has formed part of a successful and growing business, driving improvements in the services offered to the customer and the way in which that service is delivered.“
The award ceremony took place last Tuesday night at the London Hilton, and guests (including a lucky few from DRL) were treated to some street dance moves courtesy of 2010 Britain’s Got Talent runners up Twist and Pulse and some hilarious comedy from Stewart Francis.
This is our fourth award of the year and with four more award ceremonies still to come, we’re hopeful it won’t be our last.
If you didn’t manage to see any of the video footage from the trip please take the time to watch this fantastic video produced by our very talented video team…
All that is left to say is a massive thank you to everyone who donated and to the 12 DRL employees who were brave enough to take on the challenge. You did us proud!
The summer keeps getting better and better here at DRL because last week we found out that our flagship brand Appliances Online has been nominated for a National Business Award. This is quite an achievement for the business because the National Business Awards are one of the most prestigious award ceremonies around.
We have been nominated for the “Customer Focus Award” which reflects our passion for great customer service and our commitment to getting things right the first time. The National Business Awards attract the UK’s largest and most reputable businesses and our category is no different, the competition reads like a who’s who of the business world and includes fellow North West retailer Pets at Home.
The next step is to present our entry to a distinguished panel of judges in London’s Gherkin Building in September and then onto another glitzy award ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Tuesday 8th November, well for a lucky few at least. Let’s hope we can add to our trophy collection and firmly cement our place as one of the UK’s best businesses.
Celebrate good times! Our flagship brand Appliances Online has won an Online Retail Award. We have won the ”Best Online Electrical Retailer” award which is fantastic news for the business and firmly cements Appliances Online’s reputation as one of the top retail websites in UK.
You have probably noticed there have been many changes made to the Appliances Online website over the past year, it’s these changes which have elevated the brand to the forefront of online retail. We were one of the first online retailers to introduce video reviews onto our website as well as customer reviews.
This award is a true reflection of the hard work put in by everybody at the company and let’s hopes we can carry forward this momentum into European Call Centre and Customer Service Awards which take place in October.
If you would like to know more about the improvements on the Appliances Online website take a listen to the podcast directly below this blog.
I’m sure you have all noticed the brand new Appliances Online product page. This page has been created by DRL’s marketing team using a wide range of research to find out what our customers want. Utilising tools such as What Users Do and ClickTale the marketing team were able to establish what was going wrong with our old product page and how to make the new product page more user-friendly for our customers.
Recently we sat down with DRL’s marketing team to discuss the re-design of the product page which has been a big success since it was introduced on the website last month. Featuring in this podcast are the following:
The summer is well underway and despite the typically miserable weather I have some good news to share! DRL has been nominated for another award and this time it’s at the European Call Centre and Customer Service Awards. We are up for the “Best Customer Service Operation” which recognises our efficiency and professionalism when dealing with our customers. It’s a great award to be nominated for because it represents our passion for our customers and our determination to get things right the first time.
Although we have been nominated there is still a long way to go, in the next couple of week a pair of judges will witness first hand our customer service operation in action. (No pressure) If they consider us to be better than the rest, the award is ours.
The award ceremony takes place on the 11th October in the swanky Hilton Hotel on Park Lane, so keep your fingers and toes crossed and let’s hope we can add this award to our collection.
